The BEST Baseball Lineup in HISTORY (according to AI)

OK, I asked Artificial intelligence (AI, Chat GPT) to give me the Best MLB batting line up of ALL TIME from a statistical perspective, and here is what it gave me (eventually).

I have to say off the top of my head I would have had Rickey Henderson lead off, but from a statistical point of view I can see why it chose who it chose.

Take a watch and let me know in the comments who got snubbed and what changes you'd make!

I have to say off the top of my head I would have had Rickey Henderson lead off, but from a statistical point of view, I see why Hornsby is there.

Also AI initially gave me Frank Thomas as the best DH, but then I told it they could choose ANYONE and so it added Hank Aaron and moved Bonds to DH!!

  1. Rogers Hornsby (2B)
  2. Honus Wagner (SS)
  3. Babe Ruth (OF)
  4. Barry Bonds (DH)
  5. Lou Gehrig (1B)
  6. Ted Williams (OF)
  7. Hank Aaron (OF)
  8. Mike Schmidt (3B)
  9. Johnny Bench (C)

And here is some more AI justification about each player in the lineup. Let me know if you agree!

  1. Rogers Hornsby (2B): Hornsby is widely regarded as one of the greatest second basemen in baseball history. He won two National League MVP awards and led the league in batting average seven times. In addition to his impressive career batting average of .358, Hornsby hit 301 home runs and drove in 1,584 runs over the course of his career.

  2. Honus Wagner (SS): Wagner is considered one of the best shortstops to ever play the game. He played his entire career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, leading them to two World Series championships. Wagner hit .327 over his career and was a prolific base-stealer, swiping 722 bags in his career.

  3. Babe Ruth (OF): Ruth is perhaps the most iconic player in baseball history, known for his prodigious home run hitting and larger-than-life personality. He hit 714 home runs over his career, which stood as the all-time record for several decades. In addition to his power hitting, Ruth was also a skilled hitter, posting a career batting average of .342.

  4. Barry Bonds (DH): Bonds is a controversial figure in baseball due to allegations of performance-enhancing drug use, but there is no denying his immense talent as a hitter. He holds the all-time record for most home runs in a career with 762, as well as the record for most home runs in a single season with 73. Bonds was also a skilled all-around hitter, posting a career batting average of .298 and leading the league in on-base percentage ten times.

  5. Lou Gehrig (1B): Gehrig is considered one of the greatest first basemen in baseball history. He played his entire career with the New York Yankees, forming one of the most iconic duos in baseball history with Ruth. Gehrig hit .340 over his career, hitting 493 home runs and driving in 1,995 runs.

  6. Ted Williams (OF): Williams is widely regarded as one of the greatest hitters of all time. He is the last player to hit over .400 in a season, accomplishing the feat in 1941. Williams hit 521 home runs over his career and drove in 1,839 runs. He also had an incredible eye at the plate, leading the league in on-base percentage twelve times.

  7. Hank Aaron (OF): Aaron is best known for breaking Ruth's career home run record in 1974, finishing his career with 755 home runs. He hit .305 over his career and drove in 2,297 runs, both of which are all-time records. Aaron was a consistent hitter, posting a batting average of .300 or better in fourteen seasons.

  8. Mike Schmidt (3B): Schmidt is widely regarded as one of the greatest third basemen in baseball history. He hit 548 home runs over his career, winning three National League MVP awards and ten Gold Gloves for his defensive prowess. Schmidt also drove in 1,595 runs over the course of his career.

  9. Johnny Bench (C): Bench is widely regarded as one of the greatest catchers in baseball history. He won two National League MVP awards and was a ten-time Gold Glove winner. Bench hit .267 over his career, hitting 389 home runs and driving in 1,376 runs. He was also known for his strong arm behind the plate, leading the league in caught stealing percentage six times.

Let me know if you agree or what change you'd make!
